And so. Let le petite adventure commence. We have planned our two-week trip to start on Thursday 26th August 2010, and so far I am, despite myself, excited and counting down the days to our little road trip along the south coast of France. I mean it's France! Which means Le Great Outdoors will be tres chic, non? I know, I know, I haven't forgotten that I shall be sheltering beneath canvas, but I'll have you know I've already spent a night in a tent a few weeks ago and it was fine. And I've camped out in my garden loads of times when I was about seven, and it was loads of fun. So I'm sure this won't be as scary as I first thought. We've already purchased our four-man tent (the two of us plus space for stuff); a camping stove; foldable chairs and table; air bed and kettle (there's no way I can get through this without tea, South of France or not), and I'm starting to think about my Capsule Camping Wardrobe already. More importantly, I'm going to make sure our car is bursting at the seems with necessities, so it's not like we'll be roughing it or anything.
What am I doing?
Generally, when I imagine going on holiday, I'm thinking hotel/villa, mod cons, quality linen. Camping has never really rated highly on my 'must-do' list. But since I married a man who's far more outdoorsy, laid back and low-maintenance than myself, the time has come to step outside of my comfort zone. And as the words 'Monaco', 'St Tropez' and 'Cannes' were cleverly bandied about, I thought, why not? How hard can Le Great Outdoors be?
